Luz y Tierra was created as a way to honor culture, craft, and the beauty of handmade work.
It began in 2020, unexpectedly, during a simple trip to the thrift store. I came across a few mugs and small cazuelita-style pieces that immediately reminded me of Mexico — my culture, my childhood, and the everyday objects that quietly hold so much meaning. I turned those pieces into candles and named the collection Mexicanita. I didn’t know it then, but that moment would change everything.
The collection went viral. But more than the attention, what stayed with me was a question that kept coming up: Who made these pieces?
I wanted to know the hands behind them. I wanted connection, not just product.
As a Mexican-American brand, our story lives between two places — the traditions of Mexico and our studio in Mesquite, Texas. What began as a love for candles and home objects slowly became something deeper: a desire to celebrate Mexican artistry in a way that felt intentional, respectful, and lasting.
Rooted in Craft
Every Luz y Tierra candle begins with a handmade vessel sourced from different regions of Mexico. We work closely with artisans who carry generations of knowledge in their hands, valuing traditional techniques, slow processes, and meaningful relationships over mass production.
Each vessel is unique — shaped by hand, imperfect in the most beautiful way, and made to be used long after the candle has burned.
Made With Intention
Once the vessels arrive, each candle is hand-poured in small batches in our Mesquite, Texas studio using 100% soy wax. From fragrance blending to pouring and finishing, every step is done by hand and with care.
Growing up, scent was always tied to memory for me. The smell of café de olla, arroz con leche, warm kitchens, and familiar spaces has a way of bringing us back — grounding us in who we are and where we come from.
Candles became my way of honoring that feeling. Not just through fragrance, but through the vessel itself — something meant to be held, reused, and lived with long after the candle is gone.
From the beginning, it was important to me that the work behind each piece was respected — that artisans were paid fairly, recognized, and valued for their craft, not hidden behind “inspired by” labels or mass production.
This slow approach allows us to create candles that feel personal, thoughtful, and made to be experienced — not rushed.
A Bridge Between Cultures
Luz y Tierra exists as a bridge between heritage and home. Between past and present. Between the hands that create in Mexico and the spaces these pieces live in across the country.
Our work celebrates Mexican culture not as a trend, but as a living tradition — one rooted in artistry, history, and everyday ritual.
Today, Luz y Tierra works with artisans from different regions of Mexico, sourcing handmade vessels created using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Each piece carries subtle variations, texture, and character — reminders that they were made by real people, not machines.
A Piece of Mexico, At Home
When someone brings a Luz y Tierra candle, vase, or home piece into their space, I hope they feel connected. Represented. Proud.
Whether you are Mexican or not, my hope is that each piece brings a sense of warmth and belonging — a small, meaningful connection to Mexico and the beauty of handmade tradition.
Luz y Tierra exists to celebrate culture, memory, and the quiet power of everyday objects.
This is lo bonito de Luz y Tierra.
Con cariño,
Grecia
